How to Dress for Your Cabin Crew Assessment Day

How to dress for your cabin crew assessment day is a very important factor to consider. Learning the art of making a good first impression is the out-most power in the path to success at your cabin crew interview.

You are aiming to get a job in an industry that highly values appearance.

The airlines want their flight attendants to be spotless, with shiny shoes and always neatly ironed, presentable and ‘out of the box’ look.

When meeting someone new, we humans take a mere 30 seconds to form an opinion. We base our judgement on body-language and appearance. This first-impression cannot be altered at a later stage, regardless of what you say or how well prepared you are for all the questions that you have to answer. You may think it is superficial, but this is how human beings are built. We have no control over it!

Consider one study in which untrained subjects were shown 20 to 32-second video-taped segments of job applicants greeting interviewers. The subjects then rated the applicants on attributes such as self-assurance and likability. Surprisingly, their assessments were very close to those of trained interviewers who spent at least 20 minutes with each applicant.

It has been shown that 55% of a person's opinion is driven by physical appearance.

You want your interviewers to think the highest of you and offer you the job.  In here we will focus now on your appearance and how to dress for success at your assessment day. Let’s talk about how you can make sure that the first impression you create is a positive one.

Ladies

1. Suit
On the assessment day, you should always wear a skirt suit. A skirt is feminine and in most cases a compulsory part of the uniform. The length of the skirt is another important aspect to consider. Aim for the middle of your knee as the minimum length and half of your calf as the maximum length.  You may want to test how the skirt looks when you sit down, if it doesn’t slide too high up or gets too wrinkled. Also keep in mind that the group activities might require you to do some physical work: create a puzzle on the floor, build a lego construction or arrange objects in categories. If you have to crouch down, you need to make sure that it all stays decent.
Your jacket should be fitted and elegant.
If you prefer, you can wear a business dress and a jacket.

Go for dark colors such as black, grey, navy or brown and stay away from bright colors or patterned models such as bright green or pink, flowers or animal prints.

2. Shoes
Wearing shoes with a high heel will give you a good posture, making you feel taller and more confident. Go for a comfortable shoe in a classic style that you can walk in, stand on and spend many hours wearing.

Pumps are ideal, kitten heels are the minimum height and 7-8cm should be your maximum height.  Avoid strappy sandals, open-toes, shinny colors such as gold or silver, decorative stones, platforms, too high or too flat numbers. Actually, if you would consider going out to a bar or club with the shoes you have probably they are not the best choice for your interview.

For the safest choices, go with colors such as black, brown, beige, dark grey or navy. Don’t hesitate to wear colors such as dark green or red, if they are the only item of color in your outfit and they are paired with same color scarf or lipstick. For example, a red shoe can be worn with a black skirt, white or black shirt and red lipstick. Or a green one can be paired with a dark grey skirt, black shirt and a green scarf.

Do not forget that you will be required to remove your shoes for the arm reach test so your pantyhose should be intact and your pedicure spotless.

Choose an ensemble that is feminine, elegant and classy.

3. Not too deep, nor too tight
In a word: decency. If you wear a buttoned shirt, no more that 1 button should be open. If you have a blouse with cleavage, the blouse should not be deeper that one palm under your collar bone.  The same goes for tightness. You don’t want to give a preview of your beach body. The skirt should not be so tight as to give you difficulty to sit down, and the blouse should be fitted but not too tight.

4. Hair
A flight attendant always keeps a very neat hairstyle. A wanna-be flight attendant should do the exact same thing.

If you have long hair, tie in in a neat bun at the back of your head and secure it with some pins and a bit of hair spray.
If you have a pixie crop, style it neatly.
As a rule of thumb, if your hair can reach your shoulders, it should be tied back.

5. Makeup
Search for pictures of the airline’s flight attendants and copy their makeup. Natural colors such as grey and brown work the best.

Start you makeup session with a concealer or foundation to even out your skin – if you need it.  Follow by applying an eye shadow on your upper eyelid and a coat or two of black or brown mascara.  A bit of blush following the natural contour of your cheeks and as a final touch, a nude or red shade of lipstick. Avoid lip gloss as you will probably eat it during the first hours of the day. A good lipstick looks much more professional.

Avoid smoky eyes and metallic shades, as well as too much blush or too much mascara. You want to look like yourself after you had a very good night sleep.

Your manicure and pedicure should also be taken care of, nails clean and of medium length, with a transparent coating or a neutral color. Avoid pointy nails, nail design as well as fluorescent or too dark colors.

When it comes to makeup, less is more.

6. Accessories
There is one accessory that says ‘flight attendant’ louder than anything: The Scarf.  A delicate silky scarf will give you that extra touch that will make the potential employers imagine you wearing the airline scarf.
You can wear the scarf tied around your neck with a simple or double knot on the side. You can also tie it loosely in the front, or just without any knot visible.  It will make your neck look longer and will keep your spine more erect. You cannot go wrong with wearing scarf on your big day.
As for the other accessories, have a minimalist approach to it. Keep it simple and tasteful: stud diamond or pearl earrings, a delicate necklace, a small watch.
Avoid artisan earrings, plastic or wooden beads necklaces, bangles or too many rings with big stones or complex design.

7. The Most Important Ingredient: The Smile
A warm and confident smile will put both you and the other person at ease. A positive, smiley face will make the person you talk to immediately perceive you as friendly, helpful, positive and a person easy to work with.  A smile is something you can wear without fearing it will get out of style. Make it part of your every day attire and personality!

When dealing with something unpleasant, smile and immediately you will feel a dose of optimism. And so will everybody else around you!

We do search for one particular sign on a new face: a smile.  ‘We can pick up a smile from 30 meters away’ says Paul Ekman, professor of psychology at the University of California Medical School in San Francisco, and a pioneer of research on facial expressions. ‘A smile lets us know that we’re likely to get a positive reception, and it’s hard not to reciprocate.’

Smile and the world smiles too.

Gentlemen

1. Suit

Your best choice is to go for a dark colored suit, with the pants and jacket in the same color and design. Go for black, grey, navy, dark brown, with or without stripes. Stay away from light colors or pastel combinations.

2. Shirt
Go for a color complementing the rest of the ensemble. Safe choices are white, beige, light pink, light blue, blue, green, red, grey, black.

3. Tie
The tie is a must have accessory to the male business attire for a cabin crew interview. Go for a simple design and pattern that matches your suit and shirt. Learn how to do a double knot (Windsor knot) here.
Stay away from cartoons on the tie as well as leather ties, bow ties or scarfs.

4. Shoes
Dark shoes (black, brown, navy or grey), perfectly polished. No light colors, sport shoes, sandals, boots, high heels, inserts or fashion pieces.

Classic is best.

5. Hair
Your hair needs to be short and neatly styled.
Completely shaved heads are not accepted unless you have a medical reason for it, so try to keep your hair at least 2mm long. If your hair is longer, use gel to style it in a professional manner.
Before the big day, it might be a good idea to visit your barber for a haircut and a neat shave. No form of facial hair is appreciated.
Also, no makeup should be worn during the interview.

6. Accessories
Men accessories are few and very simple.
You will need a watch in a classic design to match the rest of your attire. If you are married or you prefer to wear rings, keep it to your middle or your ring finger only, no more than one ring per hand.
Remove earrings, facial piercings, bracelets and whatever other visible jewelry you normally wear.

7. The Smile
Some think a man is more appealing if he keeps his mystery by not smiling. While this may be true for cowboy movies, during the cabin crew interview you should appear as warm, polite and open. This is done by smiling. From the heart. Let us see your friendly and approachable self!

Now that you have all this valuable information, go out to your closet and create your perfect interview day outfit. Try it on, take your own picture while wearing it and picture yourself entering the interview room confident and looking amazing with a dashing smile! This is the winner formula!

    Hi, Kara,

I would like to ask a few questions.

    1) I have a mild rosacea for few years. However, the rosacea is now under control and the redness is no longer appear. Do you think it will affect me if I apply for the emirates cabin crew position? I did thought of keeping this conditions in secret. But if I’m fortunate enough to get into the final interview and having medical test, I do need to declare this in my medical history section, right? If I only telling them my rosacea until then, I think this might give them a bad impression on me. I’m struggling with this issue right now as I really want to give it a try for at least once in my life. (I don’t want to regret about it when I’m old)

    2. As for the dress code. Do we need to prepare three sets of business suits for all three stages (open day, assessment day & final interview)? Or we just wear the one business suits from day 1 to day 3?

I will really appreciate it if you can provide me some advises on it. Thank you.

      Hi Suk Fen,
If this condition is no longer part of your life, you shouldn’t bring it up.
You can have the same business attire with a different shirt or an accessory to brighten and renew it. You don’t’ have to spend a lot of money for this.

        Hi, Kara,

        Thanks for the reply. 🙂
That means I also don’t need to write it down in the medical history section, right?

        • Kara

Actually, you do, especially if you are still taking medication for it. If the issue is treated and your condition is no longer affecting you, then you shouldn’t bring it up, but if you are still receiving treatment for it, then you should absolutely not lie about it.

    • Kara

      Reply Reply August 31, 2016

The requirement for the airlines in the Middle East is to be able to have a vertical arm reach of 212cm – Emirates and Qatar and 210cm with Etihad Airways.
The only height requirement comes from Emirates, which requires a minimum of 160cm (5.3)

    Reply Reply May 25, 2016

Hey my name is huda I have been dreaming of becoming a flight attendant with emirates however I wear a head scarf is that still a problem today

I was thinking of wearing a white or red headscarf (what ever they require) in a turban style so it not obvious and the uniform hat should cover it up.

I may be wrong but I read an article that announced hijab is now allowed to be worn in many arab airlines including emirates.

    Plz reply

    • Kara

      Reply Reply May 28, 2016

Unfortunately the article you read is incorrect Huda. None of the 3 airlines in the Middle East – Emirates, Etihad or Qatar accept cabin crew wearing hijab. It is permitted for ground crew though.
The only airline in the area which permits head scarfs for the cabin crew is Saudi Airlines.

      I hope this helps you.

Short natural hair is fine as long as it is styled neatly and business-like.

      Hi Methma,

For Emirates you must be 5’3″, so that’s not an option for you.
Both Etihad and Qatar don’t require a minimum height, however your vertical arm reach must be 210 or 212cm respectively. See if you can reach that height. If you do, you can go for an interview.
Your complexion is not a deciding factor.
Any languages you can speak on top of English are a great advantage.
      Good luck!

Well Mc, here is what I think is wrong:
      1. You believe gender is a deciding factor
      2. You believe sexual orientation is important
      3. You believe that your race contributes to your success or failures
      4. You believe looks are more important than skills
The boost of confidence you so seriously need is not happening because you are asking all the wrong questions.
The story you make up is the story you need to believe to be true. I suggest you go ahead and dig deeper. You might find something worth exploring.

As for the type of interview, you will need to research each airline’s official method of recruitment. Emirates uses and agency, Etihad and Qatar Airways don’t.

HI Maria, I’m sorry about your experience. Unfortunately, the only acceptable visible piercings are in your ear lobes. You may have more than one, however it must not be visible and no more than 1 earring should be used. I’m not sure what to advise you. Maybe go and see a doctor and ask if there is any way you can minimize the appearance of the hole. Many cabin crew have piercings, however none of them are in the face area. I’m sorry I can’t give you better news.

For Qatar Airways they require you to wear skin tone pantyhose. A scarf is not required.

It’s not a big deal if you can conceal it with make-up Redi. It is quite unlikely that the recruiter will stare at your face. This matter appears much more serious in your own mind. Try to be confident. Absolute physical perfection is not one of the minimum requirements.

    Hello Kara,

Thank you so much for your post. It has been of great helps.
I went to an Open day for Qatar Airways, got invited to the assessment day, made it Up to the final interview. But I read few of the post here and I am freaking out.

Not having a driving license is not of a big deal right? I mentioned that I was short sighted can that work against me? And do they check references because I gave two number but the company I am working for is being liquidate and they cut our line, is it possible for me to give them a 3rd number? And finally for the pictures they required, I have some braids a day after my final interview, are they fine tied at the back or should I rather wear a wig?

    • Kara

      Reply Reply September 5, 2015

      Hi Mathylde,

First of all try to think positive. Freaking out is known not to work too well in these cases.
Driving license is not required. The skill of driving a car is absolutely irrelevant. If you know how to drive a plane, that is relevant.
Your vision will be rechecked and reconfirmed during the medical exam. It depends how serious your condition is
If they can’t contact the references, they will ask for further details.
Any hair style that is business like will do. Hair tied back is perfectly acceptable.
Take a deep breath and realign your energies. All will be fine.

Prashanti, I’m not in the position to tell you why you were rejected. The delay might have been the cause (but only if you failed to upload the documents in a reasonable time), however being married might have contributed as well. There seems to be a preference to recruit single candidates.

Does the “interview” include during the open day or the assessment day after I’ve been selected? I am a guy and I do wear light makeup to conceal some blemishes and dark circles, in general to look more presentable. Please advice whether guys are allowed to wear light makeup on open day / assessment day. Thank you so much for your contribution and I look forward to your reply.

    Hi Kara

Just following up on my Johannesburg open day experience. It was a long wait. My number was in the 400s.

When it was my turn, the recruiter only greeted me, asked how I was doing, my name, ticked stuff on my cv and said I’d know if I was selected at 1900h. The exchange was pleasant and I smiled. I obviously didn’t make it as it’s now the next day and I encountered 2 individuals who had been invited back by the recruiters.

I was rather confused since other people were asked at least one question apart from their names. I don’t know what else to think. I looked pleasant, wore appropriate business wear. (I’m a finance person, I understand business dress).

I’m just wondering if the recruiter found my diastema to be offensive as some people do. So much so that I was only asked my name and nothing else?

My diastema is so normal to me and I won’t incur costs to narrow it! Perhaps this airline is just not for me then.

    • Kara

      Reply Reply June 1, 2015

Sorry to hear about your experience Tash. Recruitment Days are highly competitive events and only the best of the best will be selected. There are many factors that are taken into consideration such as language abilities, soft skills, customer service experience as well as impeccable first impressions. This is all measured against the rest of the candidates.
I can only advise you to keep on trying and apply for all airlines hiring, even if it’s just to gain experience. You can’t really pin point the reason for rejection.

I would like to know if it is acceptable to wear a short-sleeved shirt for an OD/AD. I think a long-sleeved shirt would make me look more professional, but the problem is that it restricts muy mobility and makes it very unlikely to me to pass the reach test, while with a short-sleeved one I can comfortably pass it. Being a man, I can’t tiptoe for the reach test, so that makes things worse. Of course, I would wear a suit and tie and only remove my jacket to perform the reach test. I would appreciate your advice on this subject, since it could really make the difference between getting the job or not for me.

I’ve read that some people have taken up to 4 photos and CV+resume and copies of passport and diplomas, idk if I should get that together, I don’t want to seem as I’m jumping ahead of myself. 3. Michelle, the assessment takes 1 day and the final interview is the next day, so if you pass through all the stages you will be there for 2 days.
In the hope that you will make it all the way to the final interview, bring with you 4 passport photos, 1 full length photo in business attire and 1 full length in casual attire as well as a copy of your highest diploma.
Your attire sounds fine. A red shirt is fine as long as it is part of a classic combo.
      Good luck!

You must be able to reach the 212cm vertical mark Jawad. And yes, the business suit is the recommended attire for the open day.

    Dear Kara,

I have an Assessment Day for Emirates next week, and I’ve prepared a beige suit and a grey dress, not a very deep grey though, but something in between. They look harmonic and give a business attire impression. Though, as I’ve read through many blogs and suggestions, there is a hint of a doubt now: can I wear these colours? Or shall I “play safe” and choose a black skirt/dress and a grey/black suit?

Hi Kara. I want to go to an OD next month and already prepared what I want to wear that time, except for the shoes. If possible, I’d like to avoid having to buy a new pair of shoes only for the OD, but the only shoes I have at home that would match the formality are these:

    http://thumbs4.ebaystatic.com/d/l225/m/mDvf7CYqjFJMqMeujy0MaFQ.jpg

They’re really conservative, kind of bulky and have a very broad heel compared to other “normal” pumps, but are elegant nonetheless. I used to wear them at work and am able to stand and walk very well in them. Do you think I could wear them for the OD or would I be frown upon for not having thinner heels?

    • Kara

      Reply Reply October 16, 2014

Cinol, it depends on the airline. Qatar Airways requires a copy of your passport when applying, however you can explain the situation and the expected date of getting your passport (you may want to keep the information about verification problems to yourself).
The shade of your complexion is not a deciding factor during the interview and your tooth should be fine as long as it is not something very visible.

Is it okay to attend an open day if you are not a resident of that country that is having an open day? And also I am wearing braces that will be removed in a month when my orthodontist comes back, but the open day is in 10 days. Do you think they will consider if I tell them that my braces will be removed soon? Or I should not bother going?

    • Kara

Lydia, you can participate in any open day regardless of the location or your residence. The braces however, it is recommend you take them off for the interview. You can still participate in the interview, but your aim is for the recruiter to picture you in their uniform. Braces are not part of the interview. But go, you have nothing to lose.

hi kara, thanks alot for answering my questions , and i have a concern about an issue,
well, lastnight i checked qatar airways cabin crew open day october2014 via your website, and found out there will be an event in my country oct 25th, but i dont know what kind of event will be? an open day or what ? cos in ur website it says attend anytime between 9am to 5pm and and ya named it as a cv drop-off day. so, which i guess means its not an open day, and when i checked their official website they said to prepare some docs to bring with and be in full business attire and also mentioned anytime between 9am to 5pm, so, can i go at anytime really or should be at 9am sharp? and should apply online first before i go or not neccesary? and is it all about giving them my cv and just leave or there will be some tests ? and about business attire i got your answer that it should be everytime am about to interact with airlines and it makes sense to me , so, i wish ya just provide me with details about what cv drop-off day means and what should i do or prepare to attend the event. thanks again for your cooperation

    • Kara

      Reply Reply October 13, 2014

Moh.gad, a CV drop off event is similar to an Open Day, however the date of the assessment can be fixed at any point in the future. It can be the next day, next week or even months after.
You need your documents and an impeccable presentation. You can go anytime, hand your CV, photos and other required documents to the recruiters and answer one or two questions they might have based on your CV.
They will inform you when the assessment day is scheduled, and when to expect a phone call if you are shortlisted.
There are no tests during this day and you can go anytime between the published times. Most people however prefer they go early. There is also no need to previously apply online for the vacancy. Good luck!

hi kara once again , well am about to attend an open day for emirates by the end of this month, and i have two questions for now.
am 32 years old, what if they ask me at the od or if i shortlisted and moved to ad why i waited to be in 30s to access for this job while they accepting candidates from 21 ? what is the suitable answer for that , what should i say and what shouldn’t and what to mention to convince them even if am in 30s but still fit for the job,
the other question is at the open day should i go with a full business attire ( and here am talking about the tie) in case be shortlited and moved to assessment day at the same day ? or i can go to the open day with a suit , shirt and shoes without a tie in case am not shorlisted or be shortlisted but the ad will be the next day what do ya recommend?
hopefully get your advices about these and thanks alot for being so helpful

    • Kara

      Reply Reply October 12, 2014

      Hi Moh.gad,

During any sort of interaction with the airline, you should be in full business attire, which means suit with tie.
This question about age doesn’t normally come up in an interview. Age is a relative term. Some people in their 30s may have the maturity of a teenager, while some in their 20s might be more responsible than their birth year. The only requirement of the airline is to have the legal age, but they don’t expect everybody to be ready for this lifestyle and responsibilities when they are just 21.
If this is too much to wrap your head around, you can always just say that you now feel you have reached the level of experience that makes you confident to deal with the challenges that come with the cabin crew job.
      All the best!

Anna, I am sorry, but I am not an expert in African hair styles and braiding techniques. Braids are acceptable to wear in uniform as long as they are neatly kept. I am not quite sure how to translate that into something that might apply to your situation.
The recruiters can always advise you to change your hairstyle if hired, however during the interview you just want to look professional and well kept.

Blessing, work history has more weight than professional courses. Try volunteering for some local organizations such as Red Crescent or anything else that might broaden your range of skills. Take a first aid course, look into learning Arabic and research the internal educational opportunities that might be available with your existing organization.
All these things will make your CV more attractive.

    • Kara

      Reply Reply August 20, 2014

The most important thing for this job is to recalibrate your mindset from one of prejudgment to one of openness and kindness. Beauty is a relative term and every single being is beautiful in their own unique way. There are more important and complex aspects that the airline is looking for in their crew, such as empathy, team work, customer service mindset, willingness to help and ability to quickly adapt in new environments to name just a few. These are the things you should be able to show during the interview.
If your question is actually “do I have to look like a model to become a cabin crew”, then the answer is no.

I’m going on 23rd for the emirates airlines open day in Egypt. Is the open day the same as the cv drop off day or shall I be prepared for more? Second I have scars on my arm from an old accident which will definitely be visible if I wear a half sleeve shirt, will emirates airlines reject me when they see those scars?

    • Kara

Hi Temz. The Open Day can become an Assessment Day following the CV drop off depending on the number of candidates present. If there are too many people present, you may be asked to go home and expect a phone call during the same day with the details of the assessment day (if you are shortlisted).
As for your scars, it all really depends on how big and how visible they are. It is up to the recruiter to decide. You may be accepted with them or not, I really can’t say.
I hope it all works out great for you.

I was thinking about wearing a formal business suit but do you think a skirt would be a good idea? And also my hair is long, so I think it should be better if I picked up right? And my lips should be red? Or maybe I can wear a nude lipstick? Thank you!

Hi Kara! One of the requirement for Qatar Airways is highest certificate attainment but, my problem is how if I’m not yet done my college I’m until 3rd year college only can I show them my transcript of records (TOR)?

    • Kara

      Reply Reply April 21, 2014

Yen, you can take your TOR, however that is not a diploma. At this point your highest education diploma is high school. SO take a copy of that as well and explain your situation. You can always update your files with a new diploma at a later stage.

Hello Kara. Do you think a person with not very white teeth could get picked during the assessment for qatar airways? I recently got invited after sending in my pictures but my teeth are not completely white

    • Kara

      Reply Reply April 19, 2014

Ann, the degree of your teeth whiteness is really not something that needs to be ticked on the interviewer’s papers. You smile must be pleasant, your teeth cleaned and free of cavities and your overall appearance harmonious. Focus instead of showing them your skills such as team player, customer service centric and innovative problem solving.

Angeline, just ask yourself if you would wear this suit for any other job interview. If the answer is yes, then go ahead and wear it. You will definitely stand out, so make everything else very simple and neutral. 🙂

My question is regarding my hair length. I have a bob hair cut about and inch longer than my ear i have a long neck and my hair does not touch my shoulders can i wear my hair out if i cant put it back? And I also have a large mole behind my left ear. Will both of these items affect my chances with emirates application?

    • Kara

      Reply Reply March 27, 2014

Monique, your bob is fine as long as the hair line does not touch your shoulders. Your mole should also be ok. 🙂

Samrawit, here at Flight Attendant Central we focus only on the recruitment process for cabin crew. Most airlines use assessment centers as the preferred selection method for candidates regardless of position, however I am not sure if that is exactly what will happen during your assessment process. Some parts of the book will help you for sure, such as the questions and answers for the final interview and the group exercise.
I am sorry I can’t help you more.

    Hi,Kara,
Thanks for your suggestions and for your time… 🙂
I was wondering if you could give me your advice on 2 things:
    1) In your opinion, would I blow my chances if I wear side bangs during AD ( I have a high forehead) with middle east airlines?
2 ) My friend is 39 years old (she looks 30 and is an ex-model) and has already worked 12 years for an international airline: she was invited to an AD: do you think she really has a chance of getting hired? Or inviting her is just a way to formally demonstrate they don’t apply age limits (while informally they do…). I’m asking this because she was worried of throwing away a lot of money without having actually any chance to make it through,no matter how “perfect” she may result.
    thanks again 🙂

    • Kara

      Reply Reply March 4, 2014

Hi Morgan. No worries about your side bangs. There are a lot of crew wearing them. Just arrange your hair neatly and put it up in a bun. As for your friend, people are hired in their late 30s or early 40s. I had a colleague hired at 42, also young looking and previous experience, so it is possible. Just tell her to go there with a positive attitude and open mind. She knows more now at 39 than what she knew at 21. This is an advantage if you think of it this way 🙂

Are airlines very strict about age? Im 2O but dont look that young. Are they going to consider if i meet the rest of the requirements?thanks

    • Kara

      Reply Reply February 24, 2014

Samantha, when it comes to the age requirement, it is not about how old you look, it is about legality. Age of majority in the Middle East is 21. This is one of the prerequisites and you will not be able to participate in an interview until you are 21.

    • Kara

      Reply Reply January 22, 2014

It really depends on the airline. Qatar Airways is very strict when it comes to grooming, while for Emirates and Etihad it might be ok as long as it is not visible while wearing skin colored pantyhose.

      Hi Susan,

I dont think that the color of the suit will make it or break it. I suppose it is easier for the recruiter to imagine you wearing the cabin crew uniform if you wear similar colors, however I think it is very obvious that you are maybe trying too hard. Nail polish and lipstick in red should be enough touch.

    Hello Kara,
I really am thankful for your all tips, it makes me,confident, I have recently applied and they are having global assessment day by the second week of January in my country, if I am selected for that, my only one question still i don’t find any answer in any blogs, that there are uniforms with pants for flight attendants, right, so why isn’t it allowed to wear pants for the assessment days or interview, am more consider about it since am not comfortable and confident when am in skirt, please help me through it,
if I wear pants will I get rejected at once??? Or will they consider me as a qualified candidate,
    much thanks in advance

    • Kara

      Reply Reply December 30, 2013

Hi Zahra, that is an excellent question. For Emirates, you can go ahead in pants, however if you are successful through all the stages, they will ask you to wear a skirt for the second day which is the final interview day. The only reason for this is they want to observe your overall appearance as well as the absence of tattoos on your legs 😉

Abeer, one of the minimum requirements is a high school diploma. That is the minimum education. Everything else is considered an advantage. As for the customer service job experience, having it will definitely help you not only through the CV selection phase, but also through the assessment day scenarios. People with experience were hired, but also people without, so it all comes down on making good first impressions and demonstrate that no matter what you did before, you will be an excellent addition to their team.

I’m not sure if anyone had noticed. But there are spelling errors on this statement,

Go for dark colors SUCK as black, grey, navy or brown and stay away from bright colors or patterned models SUCK as bright green or pink, flowers or animal prints.

I believe the word you are referring to is such instead of suck. I’d capitalized it just to show where the errors are.

    thanks!

    • Kara

      Reply Reply December 9, 2011

Indeed, some European airlines do not like red lipstick and do not allow their flight attendants to wear it.
Emirates and Etihad have red lipstick as part of their uniform. By wearing it, you are only giving the assessors a preview of how you look when you wear ‘part of their uniform’
The scarf is and always will be classy and elegant.

Don’t be afraid to look like a flight attendant already 🙂
